- September, 2024
The Borno State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA) is responsible for coordinating disaster response, humanitarian assistance, and recovery efforts across the state. It supports displaced populations, strengthens community resilience, and collaborates with partners to provide timely, effective interventions that restore hope, safety, and dignity to those affected by crises and conflict.
At SEMA Borno State, emergency preparedness and response form the backbone of our mandate to protect lives during crises. We work proactively to anticipate risks, train first responders, and strengthen early warning systems across vulnerable communities. When emergencies occur whether from conflict, flooding, or fire we respond swiftly with life-saving assistance, coordinated evacuations, and relief support. Our goal is to minimize the impact of disasters through readiness, rapid action, and strong community engagement. Preparedness saves lives, and through continuous planning and capacity building, we are working to ensure Borno is always ready to respond, recover, and rebuild.
Humanitarian assistance is a core responsibility of SEMA Borno State, driven by our commitment to protect and support the most vulnerable populations affected by conflict and displacement. We ensure timely delivery of food, non-food items, shelter, healthcare, and protection services to internally displaced persons in camps and host communities. Our approach is guided by principles of humanity, impartiality, and dignity—ensuring that no one is left behind.
Recovery and rehabilitation are at the heart of SEMA’s mission to restore normalcy and dignity to communities affected by conflict and disaster. Beyond emergency response, our focus is on helping displaced families rebuild their lives through safe resettlement, shelter support, livelihood restoration, and access to basic services. We work closely with communities to ensure recovery efforts are locally driven, inclusive, and sustainable. True recovery goes beyond rebuilding homes it means rebuilding hope, stability, and opportunities. At SEMA, we are committed to a long-term vision where every affected person can return home safely and move forward with strength and dignity.
At SEMA Borno State, we believe that effective disaster management begins long before a crisis occurs. Our focus on risk reduction and resilience building is aimed at empowering communities to anticipate, prepare for, and recover from shocks. By investing in early warning systems, community sensitization, and training local responders, we are reducing vulnerability and strengthening local capacity. Resilience is not just about rebuilding structures it’s about restoring hope, ensuring sustainability, and enabling people to lead safe and dignified lives. Our goal is to shift from reactive responses to proactive prevention, making Borno State safer and more secure for all.
